Television broadcast transmitter Prague – the city is indisputably the first. Among Prague towers it is unbeatably the highest one. In many Prague views it is almost ever-present, it can be even seen from places, which nobody would expect. Its construction was decided due to spreading city and increasing interference in reception of television signal. Television broadcast submitter Cukrák and TV transmitting from Petřín, once established as temporary, were not sufficient any more. There were more locations determined for the tower construction; having considered all aspects the place in Mahlerovy sady at Žižkov was chosen. Design of the tower had been developed since 1984, the construction itself proceeded in 1985-1992. The tower was activated together with end of its construction. The design and construction itself were accompanied with very strong protests of inhabitants. Out of many designs the architectural solution was submitted to ing. arch. Václav Aulický, ing. Alex Bém and dr. ing. Jiří Kozák, who became the heads of extended composite authors. There was selected a group of three tubes, which were interconnected. Inner parts of steel tubes consist of concrete wall of thickness of 25 cm. The highest tube with diameter of 6,4 m has reached height of 216 m including laminated super-structure. Two other tubes with diameters of 4,8 m have stopped their growth in the height of 134 m. Parts of the tower are also a restaurant in the height of 63 m and roofed view terrace by 34 m higher. There are also service rooms in the height of 105 m, two personal lifts and cable runway in the main tube. In the two lower tubes there are goods lift and emergency stairs, too. Top of the tower is created by laminated antenna shield 23 m high, of container version from rings with diameter of 2 m. At the same time it is a protective shield for set of transmitting antenna systems. Everything is ended by two-meter high steel cylinder with cover, where lightning rods, warning lights and inside a vibration damper for the antenna shield are placed. At the tower foot there is a service building with transmitting hall.
