Prague's squares

Prague squares were developed successively as well as the buildings around their areas. In the Old Prague their names were often derived from the goods, which had been offered there prevailingly, or from their locations. Later on they have been named after significant people. Not only social life but also important historical events, influencing life of the whole country, unfolded in the squares in the city centre. Busy motorways, tramways and pedestrian ways have become of many of them nowadays. Prague, a town with thousand-year history, has large number of images and thus nowadays there are squares which breathe with quiet and emit peace and historical atmosphere. Some squares in the so-called joined villages have been referring to their quite recent rural past with their urban and architectonic forms.
